I was licensed late in December 2010, and finally made it to HF in April 2011.

On the air, I am a "utility infielder" -- I like dabbling in many things, but am expert in nothing. I chase DX, play in contests, participate in local ARES and Navy MARS activities, and plot how to fit more antennas onto the property without upsetting the XYL. I prefer digital modes (love RTTY contests), enjoy CW, and once in a while pick up a mic to work phone.

Station

My shack features an Elecraft K3 (main rig), an Icom IC7000 (backup/VHF SSB/portable/eventual mobile), and a Kenwood D710A.  I use a US Interface Navigator for digi work.

My primary HF antenna is an 80m Carolina Windom up about 65 feet, oriented at 150/330 degrees (i.e., between two convieniently spaced trees about 140 feet apart). My secondary HF antennas include a ridiculously low 160m Carolina windom, and a 133' inverted L up about 45 feet.

For VHF/UHF, I am currently limited to a J-pole on top of a 20-foot pole, which is fine for accessing local repeaters and packet machines, and for getting into the ISS.

QSL info (or "why did he send me a card even though I confirmed in LOTW/eQSL?")

As part of my dabbling, I am chasing the standard array of awards -- DXCC Challenge in particular, but also VUCC, US-CA,.and well, you get the idea. I'm also trying to collect actual cards from each DXCC entity that I work. I send QSL cards in support of those goals.

I usually upload to LOTW, eQSL, and Clublog at the end of each day's radio activities. I will respond to direct QSL requests (SASE/SAE appreciated, but not required), and QSL requests submitted through Clublog OQRS (use the search widget below). Bureau is fine too.

Rules,.... http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Field-Day/2012/2012-FD-Rules.pdf VHF Operation,... http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Field-Day/2012/2012-FD-VHF-Tips.pdf Frequencies we will be on.. 28.400 -10 meters 3.950 - 80 meters 14.265 - 20 meters 7.220 - 40 meters 21.350 - 15 meters FM For Field Day operating, FM is probably the easiest VHF mode to implement. You’ll have little trouble finding FM rigs to use; even a hand-held transceiver can make a fine Field Day rig. FM doesn’t have the range of CW or SSB, but it is the most popular communications mode on the VHF and UHF bands. You’ll find the greatest amount of FM simplex activity on the 2-meter band, although 6 meter FM may be worth a try as well. Remember that Field Day rules prohibit the use of repeaters. This means you’ll have to hunt for contacts on the recognized simplex frequencies. QSL INFO All QSL cards should be sent to: N4JTQ Rick Sawaya Sr. W4W Field Day Event 2005 Spence Mountain Loop Sevierville , TN 37876 You must send a SASE # 10 envelope with your QSL card, if no SASE you will not receive a QSL card back !! Donations are welcome to the club.. Again anyone is welcome to come and join us, bring your own equipment to operate. Also if you wish to just stop by and say hello that would be great, we will have some items to give out during this event !! Thanks http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Field-Day/2012/2012-FD-LOG.pdf www.arrl.org
