Hi, my name is Edward. I am 14 years old,and I live in Atlanta Georgia. I got into ham radio after my sister, AJ4JQ, got her Extra license. I am a General Class operator and so is my dad, N4JJD. My grandfather, KK4BUF has his tech license and my great uncle has his extra. I use a Flex 3000 with a MD-100 dynamic microphone, 5-100 watts and also an IC-718. For my antenna, I use a center-fed dipole that is 75ft(25m) high and 110ft long. I enjoy all bands, but my favorite bands are the HF bands, and I enjoy working DX. I also enjoy QRP and have talked to someone in Greece with only 18 watts or so. I have curently worked 188 countries (not all confirmed),42 of which were on 10 meters. My most recent dx contacts have been Algeria,Fiji, Malepelo, Pitcarin and Falkland Islands, and also Iraq and Madagascar and Wallis and Fortuna Islands.I enjoy contesting and especially the CQWW and School Club Round-Up at the station KJ4LS . I am active almost every day (when homework permitts), but I am homeschooled so that gives me a-lot of time to do dxing.I also enjoy working Field Day at the NFARL (North Fulton Amateur Radio Leauge). I am a member of NFARL, amateruradio Club of the Year (2010) (www.NFARL.ORG), and also a member of YACHT (Young Amateur Contest Ham Team) YACHT#70. Below is a picture ofme at the NFARL Field Day. I operated 20 meters and got a total of 250 qsos in 1 1/2 hours! I have met so many people in radio that I would have never otherwise met. These friends include Yulio, CO6YI, and Oton, WP4IUI and Jamar, V85AJK . Some people I met at the Dayton Ham fest I talk to over the radio by arranging Skeds. My latest article in my blog (High Frequency) "How-to-DX-Guidelines" . This article is going to be published by the ARRL'S Web Extra soon.I am the net control for the North Fulton Amateur Radio League Youth Net. This net meets every Friday, excluding holidays at 5:00 pm EastearnTime on the NFARL repeater at 145.470 MHz (PL:100 Hz). You can also use Echolink to join this net. To do so you can dial the node #560686. We need more youth on this net, and we would be glad to have you join us. Non-youth are also welcome. I hope to hear you on the airwaves soon, and would be more than glad to have a QSO with you, 73 and all the best! From KJ4NRN, Edward Doyle

Hi Ed
Cool to see that there is someone (about) my age in the hobby. Working on my general right now, not fun to have a 15m antenna when you can't really use it.
Hope to catch you on the air some day soon, maybe talk to you on E skip.

FM
For Field Day operating, FM is probably the easiest VHF mode to implement. You’ll have little trouble finding FM rigs to use; even a
hand-held transceiver can make a fine Field Day rig. FM doesn’t have the range of CW or SSB, but it is the most popular
communications mode on the VHF and UHF bands. You’ll find the greatest amount of FM simplex activity on the 2-meter band,
although 6 meter FM may be worth a try as well. Remember that Field Day rules prohibit the use of repeaters. This means you’ll
have to hunt for contacts on the recognized simplex frequencies.
