EX: N4GJM
I was first licensed as a novice in the early 1960s, but career and job related traveling interfered with my ham activities until I finally got time to upgrade and operate regularly in 1978. My previous call, N4GJM, was issued in Tennessee and was used until I was issued W5TJH as a vanity call in February of 2012.
My simple station consists of an Icom IC-756 Pro II with matching PS and SP-21 speaker, MFJ-986 3KW manual tuner and an Ameritron AL-80A (this is an amplifier built by the original Ameritron factory before it was acquired by MFJ industries). Backup/portable equipment consists of a Yaesu FT-100A, Kenwood TS-480S, Ameritron AL-811H, and small power supplies and easily deployable antennas.
I also have VHF/UHF capabilities with a Kenwood TM-271A, Kenwood TM D-700A and portable Yaesu FT-60 and TH-D7A handhelds. I like to operate field day, ARES, RACES, and am a longtime Army and now Air Force MARS member. I also have digital capability - PSK-31, MT-63, and several other modes including SSTV.
I want to get back into AMSAT as soon as possible. I have enjoyed working the LEO sats with my Arrow antenna and handheld radio but a lot of that is changing. Working the space station several times was a great privilege. Contacts with notable hams such as JY1, King Hussein of Jordan, Dr. Katashi Nose, KH6IJ (Mr. Hawaii), Barry Goldwater K7UGA and a couple of others were other highlights of my ham activity.
Since a recent move, I only have a G5RV antenna installed for HF and a copper cactus j-pole (VHF/UHF) in the building stage, but Summer 2012 will allow me to ugrade those.
