My shack is my Mitsubishi Lancer where I run 100 watts from my Yaesu 857 into an ATAS 120 Magmount Antenna. I enjoy checking into the various nets on 40 meters as well as individual ragchews whenever I can snag somebody anywhere on frequency. I am active on all the hf bands my little Yaesu can reach. I like 20 meters and 30 meters. Also have discovered SKCC. What a boon to Ham Radio this club site is for all who love cw as I do. SKCC # is 7322.

 

While the Yaesu is my power house yielding a full 100 watts, it is only mobile. I have no power supply. But I have aquired an MFJ 9020 QRP that operates cw on 20 meters. It's mighty output is about 5 watts. Have really enjoyed the challenge and have worked many stations with a simple "desktop" collapsible antenna.

 

I have been ham for just under 40 years (as of 2012). I got my Novice ticket in South Texas and was assigned WN5SLY callsign. Before it expired I successfully passed for General and got the new callsign. For the first 10 or 15 years I was operating QRP with all of 3 watts coming from my little HW-7 Heathkit and a dipole. So CW is my first love. But the Yaesu offers the SSB option. I like to ride and talk to guys from all over while going to and from town, running errands, etc. So far, am not real great at driving and cw. Can send with little distraction, but head copy, I'm still working on.

Spent early adulthood as a missionary to South Texas and Mexico. Then I worked for the State of Florida for about 20 years, retiring from my probation job about 4 years ago (as of 2012).

 

I finally did it! I graduated from General to Extra this month (Jan 2012). Had set a goal to be Extra Class by my birthdate in Feb. As a byproduct of new class, I finally have the right address on QRZ with no need for the note I have deleted directing your QSL's to bypass the Florida address and send instead to TN. So it was win-win all the way.
